He became a sculptor using mostly bronze as his material of choice for his sculptures. Some of his sculptures still stand in Cuba today including a sculpture in a fountain in front of the Hotel Internacional as well as a monument for the tomb of the Unknown Soldiers in Santiago de Cuba (a province of Havana).
